Each pen is handmade, which may cause slight variations in specifications or feel. The design is fixed and without a cap. We recommend the Tetzbo pen rest for desk use. A surface patina may develop more quickly in warmer climates.
FROM SCULPTURE TO WRITING: THE MULTIFACETED CRAFT OF YOSHIKAZU TAKAI
Born in 1952 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, Yoshikazu Takai embodies an artistic transformation that crosses fields and generations. Initially renowned as a sculptor, he expanded his influence to other areas of art and design.
Takai made a notable debut on the art scene with a solo exhibition in 1987 at the famed Akiyama Gallery in Tokyo, marking the start of a distinguished career. Between 1987 and 1995, his successive exhibitions received praise both nationally and abroad. His large sculptures became landmarks in public places across Japan, adding a unique aesthetic touch to well-known parks and squares.
However, change has always been a constant in Takai’s artistic approach. About ten years ago, he took an unexpected turn by focusing on the subtle world of stationery. This shift led to the creation of his stationery brand, "TETZBO".
By applying his unique artistic viewpoint, Takai developed stationery items that tell stories while encouraging personal creativity. Each "TETZBO" item bears the mark of his sculptor’s journey while exploring new artistic realms.
By making this bold change, Yoshikazu Takai showed that artistic expression is not confined to a single medium. His transformation from a renowned sculptor to an inventive stationery maker illustrates his ability to reinvent himself, while retaining the emotional depth and complexity that characterize his work.
Today, he remains a lasting source of inspiration, affirming that a true artist is one who constantly grows, continually innovates, and always captivates.
