The town of Seki

The pristine NAGARA river flows nearby – this ancient town is an hour’s drive from Nagoya city. Seki is home to many craftsmen, each with different specialties such as the famous UKAI and KNIVES.

History of SEKI knives

SEKI knives are special because they follow the footsteps of the first craftsman 780 years ago. The master smith Hiroshige moved to Seki from Kyushu and began making swords. The smiths of Seki and the town honor Hiroshige as the founder of Seki sword forging, and the town also holds the 供養祭り (Kuyo-matsuri - memorial festival) every year on November 8th.
Seki has produced many expert smiths such as Kanemoto Magoroku (孫六兼元) and Kanesada Izumimori (和泉守兼定).
