The TN notebooks have existed since 2006. The Traveler's Notebook brand belongs to the company Traveler's Company, which was called Midori before 2015. Today the Midori brand still exists, but it is mainly used for MD Paper notebooks and some accessories. How does a travel notebook work?

The beauty of this tool lies in the fact that you choose the components, allowing you to design a tailor-made notebook. Let’s look at all the options together.

The cover

It is a piece of flat, thick leather with holes punched to hold elastic bands. That’s all you need to know. The more you use your travel notebook, the more the cover will develop a patina. The scratches it gathers over time make it look well-travelled, and the cover will adapt to the particular setup of your notebook as you use it, much like a baseball glove moulding to your hand over time. The cover is available in several colours such as black, brown, camel, olive, and blue....

The bands

The elastics are an integral part of the Traveler's Notebook system. There are bands that hold the inserts inside the cover, and another band that keeps the notebook closed.

Pro tip: when you receive your new travel notebook, it comes in a cardboard envelope sealed with a band. Keep it! It’s a good spare piece for the band that keeps the notebook closed.

TRAVELER'S COMPANY also sells thin and oversized rubber bands called “connecting bands,” which you can use to link the inserts together to add extra components to your notebook.

When you buy your notebook, the default bands are usually the colour of the chosen cover, but you can buy a set of bands in different colours and swap them out.

The central element of any notebook is, of course, the paper. The travel notebook inserts come in a variety of styles (lined, squared, or blank pages) and weights (watercolour, light, kraft, and sketch). You can also make your own paper! Simply choose the type of paper you want to use, cut it to the right size, fold it in half, and use one or two staples to hold it like a book.
