MAEKAKE - UKIYO-E SHARAKU APRON

This maekake apron bears the name of the famous ukiyo-e artist Sharaku. The character on the apron is his portrait of a kabuki character "Edobe."

The Maekake is a traditional apron used since the Edo period. It serves to protect the body by tying around the hips.

Our maekake aprons are woven using a 100-year-old shuttle loom made by Toyota.
