Indoor plants have many virtues, including stress reduction and improved concentration, but they are not always easy to maintain. ""Plants make you happy,"" this slogan of the brand perfectly sums up the thinking of Lee Gu-rum and Jung Woo-sung, the couple behind the creation of Slow Pharmacy. Whether for their beauty or their medicinal properties, plants have fascinated humans forever. This is also true for the brand's founders, who are convinced of the soothing power of plants and want to enable as many people as possible to enjoy their benefits. 

Lee Gu-rum, for example, recounts that she grew up spending a lot of time in nature with her family, especially since her mother ran a flower shop. However, once an adult, her work as a graphic designer kept her so busy that she spent all her time behind a screen, far from nature. Fortunately, she had several indoor plants nearby that helped her compensate for this lack of nature. It is thanks to the plants that she managed to find the calm and serenity she no longer had time to seek in nature. 

It is this awareness of the soothing power of plants that motivated them to found the brand Slow Pharmacy. Now working permanently in contact with plants, Lee Gu-rum and Jung Woo-sung want to share their knowledge and allow people to also have access to the benefits of plants.

It is first and foremost within their plant creation shop in Seoul, located in the heart of the inspiring and lively Seongsu-dong district, “The Brooklyn of Seoul,” that Lee Gu-rum and Jung Woo-sung help their customers fill up on nature. Resembling more a greenhouse than a shop, it is possible to find many different species of plants there. Each customer who makes the trip receives personalized advice to find the plant that suits them, but also to know how to maintain it... a bit like when you pick up medicine at the pharmacy.

It is also in this studio that they work on various conceptual projects around plants, such as the “Arche” project, which starts from the hypothesis that all nature would need to be moved into an ark to save it from earth contamination. The brand also creates many plant decorations for TV series sets, events, or even boutiques of major international brands. 

Knowing plants inside out, Lee Gu-rum and Jung Woo-sung are obviously aware that maintaining plants requires a certain investment and that not everyone has a green thumb or the desire to get so involved. To allow as many people as possible to benefit from the advantages of plants, they had the original and brilliant idea to put plants in a bottle. 

Putting nature in a bottle

While getting plants to decorate your interior is not very complicated, it is, however, more difficult and sometimes very demanding to maintain them. 

Each plant is different and requires specific needs: some need a lot of light, others a certain temperature, not to mention that you mustn't forget to water them... Even with the best will in the world, taking care of a plant can prove to be a delicate operation that can discourage many people. To avoid having to give up on the idea of having plants at home, the brand Slow Pharmacy had the idea to put plants in a bottle. 

Slow Pharmacy's bottle plants are not artificial plants but genuine plants. Each plant is carefully selected in Seoul, dried, then delicately hand-inserted into a bottle containing a special oil conducive to development and preservation. 

The bottles are transparent, with a very clean design, and contain only a few inscriptions. The liquid is also very clear, allowing perfect contemplation of each plant in detail. For example, by observing the leaf of the tabaria fern, one can admire its perfect symmetry. As for the fruits of capsella bursa-pastoris, they are so translucent that you can see the seeds inside. Each plant is fascinating, and it is quite incredible to be able to admire so perfectly species that we are not necessarily used to seeing. 

Since these are real plants, each bottle plant of the same species has a different size and shape. Among the available plants, the brand has carefully selected species as varied in shape as in color. Rose lovers will, for example, favor peacock grass or gypsophila elegans; those who want to add a touch of green to their interior will go for tabaria fern or adiantum tenerum; and those seeking a bit of originality will turn to the translucent fruits of capsella bursa-pastoris... No two plants are alike, and it is impossible not to fall in love with one of them. 

The bottle plants are available in two different sizes: a fairly compact size of 7.5 x 3 cm, with a content of 30 ml, and a more elongated size of 21.5 x 4.5 cm, with a content of 200 ml. These two sizes complement each other perfectly; it is entirely possible to arrange compact and elongated bottles on a shelf, depending on your taste. 

A soothing herbarium, doubled as a magnificent decorative object

With their simple and original design, reminiscent of the glass bottles used for scientific experiments, Slow Pharmacy's bottle plants make excellent decorative objects.
