édition limitée Traveler's notebook

Escape into the streets of the Japanese capital with the limited edition Traveler's notebook Tokyo.

Traveler's notebooks are customizable travel notebooks, extremely popular among stationery enthusiasts around the world. Marketed by the Japanese brand Traveler's Company since 2006, these notebooks are available in different colors: black, brown, blue, camel, or olive, to which various limited editions are regularly added. While it is often complicated to obtain these limited editions outside of Japan, this is not the case for the superb edition dedicated to Tokyo.

"On the cover of this edition, the word Tokyo is elegantly and subtly stamped using various symbols of the Japanese capital. Whether you have already walked the streets of Tokyo or not, this edition will instantly transport you to this incredible megacity with a thousand faces."

The Traveler's notebook

Traveler's notebooks are travel notebooks with an original concept, created in March 2006 by the Japanese brand Traveler's Company. Unlike traditional travel notebooks that have a single use, Traveler's notebooks can be reused over and over again. Thanks to an elastic system, it is indeed possible to insert notebooks inside the cover of the Traveler's notebook, but also to easily remove them once they are finished to replace them, without having to change the travel notebook.

The ability to insert different notebooks inside a Traveler's notebook is not only very practical, but also allows for personalizing your travel notebook to reflect who you are. It is thus possible to choose the type of paper you want to use (white, lined, watercolor, drawing…), but also to insert pockets to keep travel souvenirs or to add a pen case to always have something to write with.

The Traveler's notebooks are available in two formats: a standard format (22 x 12 cm) and a passport format (13.5 x 10 cm), which is smaller and easier to carry. While the Traveler's notebooks are excellent travel journals, they can also be used on a daily basis, such as a planner for example, by inserting specially designed agendas.

Each Traveler's notebook cover is handmade in Chiang Mai, Thailand, making it unique. Also, since the cover is made from vegetable-tanned leather, a material that marks over time, scratches appear as we use our Traveler's notebook, giving it a distinct character.

The limited edition Tokyo

Traveler's Company has made a habit of regularly releasing limited editions, which can sometimes be difficult to obtain. For example, there is a limited edition available only at the Traveler's Factory store located in Narita Airport, Tokyo's main airport. This beautiful edition featuring Mount Fuji is impossible to find in any other store of the brand, online, or outside of Japan.

"This is not the case for the brand new limited edition, released here on April 25, 2024, which pays tribute to the city of Tokyo. It features a black leather cover (standard size) on which the word Tokyo is embossed in aluminum, using various symbols of the city. The aluminum has the characteristic of reflecting light and thus changes color depending on how you look at it, much like the city of Tokyo, which presents different faces."

The different symbols used to write the word Tokyo:

T: shaped with the help of Tokyo Tower and mountains. Tokyo Tower, built in 1958 based on the model of the Eiffel Tower, is an iconic symbol of the city. Recognizable by its red and white dress, Tokyo Tower offers a wonderful view of Tokyo and the surrounding mountains, including Mount Fuji when it deigns to show itself.

O : formed with the Yamanote line. This is a circular railway line that connects the main places in central Tokyo. Thanks to it, one can for example stroll in Ueno Park in the morning, go shopping in Shibuya in the afternoon, and enjoy a good ramen in Shinjuku in the evening.

K : made with sushi. There are different varieties of sushi: nigirizushi, makizushi, or temakizushi. Those commonly referred to as "sushi" are actually nigirizushi, rice balls topped with a slice of raw fish. These sushi originated in Tokyo and are also called "sushi edomae," Edo being the former name of Tokyo.

Y : formed from a ginkgo leaf and its stem. The ginkgo leaf has been the symbol of the city of Tokyo since June 1989. While the ginkgo leaf with the stem resembles a Y, the ginkgo leaf alone resembles more of a T, which is why it was chosen to represent Tokyo.

O : made with several cherry blossoms (sakura). The blooming of sakura is an important event in Japan. Every year in spring, many places in Tokyo are adorned in pink for the delight of residents and tourists. On the occasion of their blooming, many people go to parks to picnic under the sakura. Since the blooming of these flowers lasts only a very short time, they symbolize the ephemeral nature of life, so one must take advantage of it.

Each Traveler's notebook comes with a 64-page blank notebook, featuring high-quality MD paper made in Japan, as well as two spare elastics and an organic cotton pouch for storage. This is of course also the case for this limited edition Tokyo, but instead of having a 64-page notebook with a regular cover, the cover also features the image of Tokyo.

In addition to the symbols present on the cover of the Traveler's notebook, there are other typical elements of the capital on the cover of the notebook, such as sumo wrestlers, who can be seen training and competing in the Ryôgoku district; the Maneki-neko, that famous white cat that raises its paw and is said to have originated at the Gotoku-ji temple; the gate of Sensô-ji, the oldest temple in Tokyo; the Shibuya crossing with its numerous pedestrian crossings; and even the facade of the Traveler's Factory store located in Nakameguro. All these symbols will surely evoke memories for those who have already walked the streets of Tokyo and will allow others to learn more about this incredible city.

On this cover, the symbols are in red and black, with a small particularity for those in red as the color reflects light. There is also a special page inside the notebook titled "my favorite things in Tokyo" to note your top 3 places to visit, dishes to eat, and more. At the end, there is also a page to place stamps, like those found in train stations and tourist spots in the city, as well as messages from people met. It is entirely possible to purchase this blank page notebook individually.

The other products of the limited edition

In addition to the Traveler's notebook, there are other products available on the Tokyo theme in limited edition:

-2 charms BRASS : 1 taiyaki charm (fish-shaped filled cake) and 1 sakura charm (cherry blossom). The cover of the Traveler's notebook closes with an elastic band that can be customized by adding charms. While it is possible to add different items, such as the keychains shaped like luggage tags from the brand PICUS, the brand also sells its own charms, like this adorable taiyaki. Each Traveler's notebook also includes a bookmark, which can be customized, like with this sakura flower.

-Set of 10 stickers with different designs: maneki-neko, sumo, taiyaki, ramen, cream soda... These stickers are perfect for decorating notebooks and pouches that are inserted into Traveler's notebooks, but also other items, such as storage boxes from the Toyo Steel brand, for example. Just let your imagination run wild.

-BRASS Pencil. The pens, pencils, or fountain pens from the BRASS range, made of brass, perfectly match the Traveler's notebook. They retract when not in use, making them easy to carry, for example, by attaching them to your Traveler's notebook. The pencil from the limited edition Tokyo is white, decorated with symbols reminiscent of Tokyo in red. The eraser, a beautiful bright orange, comes with 3 additional replacement pieces.

-Book of 12 postcards. The pages of this book are made with special watercolor paper and are perfect for drawing the beautiful landscapes of Tokyo or wherever you are. Each sheet is detachable and can therefore be used as a postcard.

You will have understood, this limited edition is a true declaration of love for the city of Tokyo, the birthplace of the famous Traveler's notebook, and its many symbols. Whether you plan to use this edition as a travel journal or as a planner, its sleek and elegant design will accompany you wherever you go, while adding a touch of Tokyo to your daily life.
