FLOWERING QUINCE L - KITO series little cherry wood tray. Design by OJI MASANORI, crafted by AIZAWA Wood Works.
KITO means "with tree" in Japanese. Convinced that the feel of comfort brought by solid wood is essential for a peaceful life, this recent project (2019-2020) of Oji Masanori is a poetical invitation to spend our daily life in touch with the essence of wood.
KITO strives to create products which deliver the comfort and hoping that people can be respectful and appreciative to the nature.
AIZAWA Wood Works, founded in 1947 in the city of Wajima, Ishikawa prefecture is a workshop of wood base for Wajima lacquerware. In 2013, they started editing their own design. Oji Masanori is the art director since 2019.
Each tree thickens year after year, cumulating strength and energy. It takes about a hundred years for a tree to be used for a tray. This century of power confined in the solid wood is sculpte by the craftsmen of AIZAWA Wood Works on lean manufacturing, using the best equipment for a high precision work and a delicate hand polishing for a high quality finish.
Each piece is made for being used and cherished for a hundred years, at least!
This workshop has chosen to make and live in keeping with the trees to preserve the rich future of forests.
