The hand forged blades of Tosa exist since the Edo era in Kochi prefecture. About 20 years ago M. Satoshi Yamashita, Tosa blade Blacksmith accepted a request from a child who wanted a knife with no pointy end to sharp his pencils. He therefore made a safe knife with an original and playful whale shape.
"Kujira" meaning whale in Japanese, is a handmade playful knife by the blacksmith Yamashita. Originally designed for children, it was used for sharpening a pencil or helping home cooking. It is not very pointy but the blade is precise which makes it a good desk cutter.
